Letters from Carefree Residents

Carefree Unity often receives letters from Town residents.  If requested, our policy is to publish them if a panel of our members believes them to be in the public interest.

To my friends and neighbors throughout Carefree,

I’m emailing you with a request as we come closer to the August 2nd Carefree election for candidates and propositions.

There has been a substantial amount of factually inaccurate information spread through various avenues of local communication. Please take the time to educate yourself before deciding on a candidate or deciding on the propositions. Seek out the candidates and ask them to explain their positions. They’ll welcome your concern and hard questions if they truly care for the good of Carefree.

We ask a lot of these volunteer candidates and are fortunate to have some very good ones but it’s up to each of us to decide who meets our needs. We all visit the post office so talk with them in the lobby as we get closer to election day. Seek out both sides of the propositions. Read the facts at Carefreeunity.com regarding the water tank storage tank adjacent to the Boulders. A website designed specifically to clarify and correct the misinformation spread by their own HOA leadership team! Carefree is experiencing issues that require all of us to make informed decisions when we vote.

The financial risks are obscene if we simply check a box because of an enticing title. Read the content and understand the logic. If you agree; a strong vote is an educated vote.

Won’t you please share with your friends and neighbors as well? Thanks for taking the time to consider my request.

From Nancy Keller and Jim Whitmer:

As full-time Carefree residents since 2003, we are extremely concerned with the caustic rhetoric, misrepresentation of issues, and the attack on both the character and intent of the current Carefree Mayor and Town Council members. Originally initiated by a small group of Boulders residents upset with the placement of the water tank, under the disguise of the Eminent Domain ballot initiative, they seek the removal of the tank at the expense of Carefree citizens. A classic case of “NIMBY”.  In addition, their Term Limits initiative impacts continuity of leadership by placing service limitations and imposing a lifetime ban.

It is reasonable to question the level of experience and involvement in Carefree of each candidate.  In contrast to our CURRENT Town Council members, some of the new candidates for Town Council and Carefree Mayor are relatively new to the community and have had little or no involvement in town or community activities.  Rather than offering realistic options for addressing a problem, the constant attacks and weak platforms demonstrate a limited understanding of the scope of challenges facing Carefree.

We applaud the current Carefree Mayor and Town Council for their dedication and commitment to improving Carefree. We are part of the 25% who have been on Cave Creek water for years patiently waiting to receive the same level of water quality and service as the rest of Carefree. We believe Carefree is best served by a qualified dedicated Council and Mayor. We support:

John Crane, Vince D’Aliesio, Tony Geiger, Steve Hatcher, Mike Johnson, Cheryl Kroyer, and Sheila Amoroso.

Prop 472 vote NO (Open space eminent domain initiative)

Prop 473 vote NO (Term limits with lifetime ban)

PROP 474 vote YES (4-year term with staggered terms)
