Letters From Carefree Residents

Selecting letters for publication can be a political act, but the overwhelming majority of letters we receive actually make similar arguments about the same candidates. Today we have selected two more to publish in the public interest.

 Carefree Unity

Letter from Bill Oelman

Diane Roth is a candidate running for the Carefree Town Council and supported by the Our Carefree PAC. While I don’t question her efforts to be successful, I do question her temperament to be a productive council member. The only positive commitment I’ve heard from her is a commitment to “transparency.” But as a member of the Boulders HOA, I don’t remember observing transparency during her term as a director there. What I do remember is that she exhibited extreme antipathy and high dudgeon towards the Town Council and the staff employees when she made an unsuccessful attempt to keep her seat in 2022.

During her current campaign she has publicly made hyperbolic statements, for example that the Carefree staff is over paid by 30% and the deadwood needs to be removed, and she also regularly lectures and criticizes our public officials in Town Council meetings. That was very evident again this month; here is one example: “We have not failed, you have failed us. Your job was to listen to our input and conform a General Plan from what we told you we wanted.” Apparently, when she gets involved she sees no room for Council members to exercise their own judgement, show leadership, or even demonstrate competence.

However, I’m a Carefree citizen too, and I certainly do expect those things from our Town Council. But I don’t expect them from Diane Roth. With this negative attitude how can she be expected to work collegially with the other six Members of the town council? The last thing we need in Carefree is more rancor

Please vote for the candidates who can work together: Vince D’Aliesio, Stephen Hatcher, and Colleen Rose-Scurti.

Bill Oelman

Letter from Jim Northcutt

Recently two of the Carefree town council candidates have mentioned their intent to remove many of the town staff employees. Lon Johnson & Diane Roth feel the staff is overpaid and incapable of fulfilling their roles supporting the town of Carefree, neither of which is true.

This petty complaining was the reason for bringing in an outside consultant along with two separate experts in finance who found the complaints completely unrealistic and unnecessary.

So again, the town spends untold dollars to satisfy a handful of dissidents that have no specifics of any wrongdoing by town staff.

This is another example of their dislike for former council, current council, as well as the water tank and Hampton Inn. If there were ever any specifics presented, their complaining might be of some value but that’s not the case. They have no legitimate complaints and therefore cannot be taken seriously.

These two individuals should either post specifics supporting their intent to remove the town staff or admit their error in judgement. But since neither candidate intends on providing specifics, the residents of Carefree must hold them accountable.

The position of Town Council member is not a position of glory and perks but rather requires specific skills that are displayed by Vince D’Aliesio, Steven Hatcher, & Colleen Rose-Scurti. Please review the Candidates’ Forum and support these three candidates.
