On November 5, a majority of Carefree residents voted to ratify a New General Plan for the Town of Carefree. Here are the results through November 8:
PROPOSITION 493 (Carefree General Plan)
YES 1,425 (57.32%)
NO 1,061 (42.68%)
Though vote counting continues, we are reporting the proposal as decided because ratification will succeed even if only ten percent of outstanding votes are in favor. The effective date will be the date the Mayor and Council meet to canvass the results, likely December 3, and the plan will be in effect for a period of ten years from that date, though it may be amended as provided by statute.
The plan that has been ratified emerged from an extensive and open two-year public process and incorporates dozens of changes in response to resident comments and feedback. Notable differences from the prior plan include enhanced requirements for public involvement in future zoning and development decisions.
